"Is that a dog or a wolf?!" Quinn yelled, trying to push Milis off while trying to slide out from under him at the same time. However, Milis wouldn't budge, and Quinn couldn't.
"Get off Milis!" I said, grabbing his collar and pulling at it, although it was like an ant pulling a brick for all I moved him. "He's actually half dog, half wolf. Are you two gonna' laugh or actually help me?" I added, glaring at Abraham and James, who were doubled over laughing.
Between the three of us we managed to haul Milis off. Quinn stood up and asked, "Does he do that to everyone or is it just me?"
"It's not you. He does that to guys when he first meets them," I panted. "I have a picture of Milis knocking James over," I added with a sly grin.
Before the guys could respond, my mom came down the stairs. She was tall and willowy with gorgeous copper curls, bright green eyes and clear, creamy skin. She was wearing a green sweater, a white, ankle length A-line skirt, and a scarf that held back her lustrous curls.
"I thought I heard something," Mrs. Airgid said with a beautiful smile.
"If you mean the sound of Milis knocking someone down, then, yes, you heard something," I said.
"So, who was the unfortunate victim this time?"
"Do you remember my friend Brian from Ireland?" I asked. When my mom nodded I said, "Well, he's an exchange student this year. And Milis's latest victim."
My mom smiled. "It's wonderful to see you, Brian."
"It's nice to see you Mrs. Airgid."
"Who wants a snack?" I asked lightly.
Mom laughed and said, "I'll let you take over here for now, Aisling." She was the only one who called me Aisling. "I have to run to the store. I'll be back in about half an hour."
"'Kay Mom," I said. "C'mon," I added to the guys. "Let's go get something to eat." I led them to the kitchen and waved my hand in the vague direction of the fridge and pantry. "Help yourselves." I helped myself to an apple and the guys grabbed fruit roll ups and granola bars.
For a few minutes we just hung around talking; then Anna walked in with Milis walking lightly behind them. Quinn looked at Milis warily, but was happily ignored by an Anna-absorbed Milis.
"That dog is absolutely in love with you, Anna," I said, shaking my head. Even when Milis and Anna (who were the same age) was a baby and puppy, Milis would watch over baby Anna and Anna wouldn't hear a word against her precious Milis.
"Milis is my puppy," Anna said, as if that was explanation enough.
"That's no puppy," Quinn snorted. He still had paw marks on his shirt.
Abe and James snickered before I said, "I have a picture of Milis doing the same thing to you Abraham. Don't make me send those around school." That shut them up.
Quinn looked at me and asked, "You got my picture?"
I handed him my phone and showed him the picture. Abe and James looked at it. "Were our pictures that bad?"
I nodded and looked at Anna. "Look at what your 'puppy' can do." I showed her Quinn, Abe, and James' photos.
Anna grinned up at me. "I like James' best."
"Definitely."
"I'm gonna' go upstairs," Anna said and added, "C'mon Milis" and skipped upstairs with a happy wolfhound at her heels, extra emphasis on the "wolf".
"Those two are innocence and trouble personified," James muttered.
"Their auras are soothing," Abe said. "Anna's is kinda' hard to describe and Milis' is a bright yellow. Anna's is pretty big, too."
"Does the size and color matter?" Quinn asked curiously. Abe hardly ever talked about his power.
"It means everything," Abe said, hopping on the counter lightly. He waited for us to do the same before continuing. "The size determines how powerful the person's power can be. The color describes the personality or emotions. It varies; bigger auras seem to display personalities and smaller auras describe emotions. Yellow means playful, free flowing, joyous. She has a yellow aura around her head, which means she's spiritual, blue is well organized and balanced, and sometimes purple which means very spiritual auras."
"Spiritual, huh? You don't think..." James looked at me sideways, and Quinn seemed stiff.
"She'd be a Spiritual? I-I don't know." Truthfully, the thought shocked me.
Just then Mom swung in, but the thought stuck with me. Through the night and through the next few days, the thought stuck with me. I didn't think I wanted her to be a Spiritual. The thought alarmed me. All I knew is if Anna became a Spiritual, nothing would be right.
